Ongoing Call for Abstracts: "Challenges to Democracy and the Rise of Authoritarianism"
We invite scholars and researchers to submit their research papers, opinion papers, and analyses examining the contemporary challenges to democracy and the resurgence of authoritarianism, particularly focusing on Central Asia, South Caucasus, and especially Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkiye, and Eastern Europe, covering but not limited to the topics listed below. In the initial stage, the abstract of the article must be submitted. If your abstract is accepted, full article submission guidelines will be provided:
- Development and Strategies of Authoritarian Regimes (e.g., mechanisms of control, propaganda, co-optation, repression)
- The Future of Democracy and Emerging Challenges (e.g., populism, polarization, digital authoritarianism, disinformation)
- The Role of Independent Media and Civil Society (e.g., resistance, advocacy, information dissemination, civic engagement)
- Global and Regional Political Trends (e.g., shifts in international power, regional alliances, democratic backsliding)
- Geopolitical trends related to authoritarianism in the region.
We welcome submissions across various academic styles: research papers, demanding rigorous methodology and data-driven analysis for scholarly contributions; analysis articles, offering a critical examination and informed opinion, grounded in evidence; and opinion articles, providing a platform for groundbreaking and visionary perspectives, though rooted primarily in the author's viewpoint.
Submission Guidelines:
- Abstract submissions are accepted in Azerbaijani, English, or Russian.
- Please include an abstract of no more than 500 words, including research questions, the relevance of the chosen research questions to the KHAR mission and/or to the abovementioned thematic directions.
- If your abstract is accepted, full paper submission guidelines will be provided.
- Please use the Chicago 17th edition citation style.
- Please submit your abstract as a .docx or .pdf file.
